McCann Casts Cartoon Crew to Plug Autolite

DETROIT McCann-Erickson breaks its first work for the Honeywell Consumer Product Group’s Autolite unit in a campaign featuring characters from the Fox cartoon series King of the Hill.

The television effort from the Troy, Mich., agency includes two 30-second spots breaking Sunday, as well as point-of-sale work. One commercial also features retired Nascar champion Darrell Waltrip.

McCann believes this is the first time that Hank Hill and his animated colleagues have been featured in TV advertising, said agency representative Jennifer Flowers.

The multi-million-dollar push promotes Danbury, Conn.-based Honeywell’s Autolite double-platinum spark plugs. It spotlights Autolite as “the official spark plug of Nascar” and includes the tagline, “Autolite: It’s time to change your plugs.”

The spots will run on pre- and post-Nascar programs on Fox, along with cable networks including Speed Channel, Fox Sports Net, FX, Sci-Fi, Comedy Central, CMT and TNN.
