Mason Scores With New Haven Savings

BOSTON Mason & Madison has been hired for advertising chores by New Haven Savings Bank.

The independent agency’s creative approach helped the shop win the business, according to Peyton Patterson, chairman and CEO of the bank, which has 31 branches and serves 20 communities in Connecticut.

The agency is also located in New Haven, and the chance “to support a locally owned and operated bank is exciting for both parties,” said shop president Charlie Mason. N.H. Savings has in the past worked with crosstown shop McLaughlin, Delvecchio & Casey.

The client spent $700,000 on ads last year, per TNS Media Intelligence/CMR.

New England’s smaller banks have been jockeying for market share and shuffling agencies of late as they continue to face pressure from large institutions such as FleetBoston Financial and Citizens Bank. For example, Webster Bank (in Connecticut) and the First National Bank of Ipswich (in Massachusetts) recently hired New York’s Avrett Free & Ginsberg and Boston’s Trinity Communications, respectively, to craft their ads.
