A year after co-founder and CEO John McGarry exited, his son and head of the shop’s digital practice, John McGarry III, is leaving. The agency today named Doug Livingston to fill the role.
Livingston, who most recently was director of digital integration at Grey in New York, now becomes chief digital officer at his new shop. He’ll report to chairman and chief creative officer Gordon Bowen.
In making the hire, Bowen cited Livingston’s “global expertise and proven ability to expand and win business.”
The younger McGarry, known inside the agency as “J3,” built the shop’s digital department from scratch in the six years since he joined. Today, more than 300 digital specialists work at the Dentsu-owned agency. In a statement, Bowen thanked him for his “contributions, his leadership and friendship.”
