Terry Kent has been appointed general manager of TNS Media North America, a unit of Taylor Nelson Sofres, which WPP Group acquired last year for nearly $2.2 billion. Dean DeBiase, who had led the company, is leaving, per TNS, which was folded into WPP research company Kantar after the acquisition.
TNS Media is an entity that was created in 2008 to expand digital measurement capabilities and to offer clients a single platform for delivery of services. It comprises four operating units: TNS Media Intelligence, TNS Media Research, Compete and Cymfony.
Kent, who had been serving as director of corporate business development for Kantar Media Worldwide, has extensive experience in the operational aspects of business development and emerging markets, including strategic partnerships, mergers, acquisitions and consolidations.
“I have known Terry for years and am very pleased that he has agreed to take on this new challenge,” said Jean-Michel Portier, CEO of Kantar Media Worldwide, in a statement. “His background in the media information and marketing research businesses and his breadth of experience, including corporate expansion activities in challenging environments, will be invaluable as we make the transition from TNS Media to Kantar Media.”
An industry veteran, Kent has held a number of senior operating officer positions at VNU and also has a track record of reengineering and integrating companies. Kent joined TNS Media in January 2008 as digital development director and was named director of corporate business development for Kantar Media Worldwide in 2009.
Commenting on his new appointment in a statement, Kent said: “The U.S. media team is focused on providing outstanding data and insights that help our clients make the most informed, efficient and effective decisions. We will continue that focus as well as our commitment to expanding our digital efforts as we transition to Kantar Media in the coming months.”
