Jump Ball for Seattle SuperSonics

LOS ANGELES The Seattle SuperSonics basketball team has launched a review for its marketing services account, the client confirmed.

Advertising for the National Basketball Association team is currently handled by WongDoody in Seattle. The shop is participating in the review, said client representative Valerie O’Neil.

The team is currently examining its marketing options, including Internet, direct marketing and advertising, O’Neil said. The Sonics have primarily focused on advertising in the past.

A budget has not been determined. The team spent less than $1 million on ads in 2002, according to CMR.

The Sonics are currently speaking with a number of Seattle shops, O’Neil said. She added that the selected agency could work in tandem with WongDoody.

No timeline has been laid out for the search, although there likely will be a decision within the next few months, according to O’Neil.

The search comes after the Seattle Sonics & Storm, which manages the Sonics and the WNBA team the Seattle Storm, unbundled the two accounts and moved advertising for the Storm from WongDoody to Sedgwick Rd. in Seattle.
