Intel Taps McCann for $300 Mil. Business

LOS ANGELES Intel has awarded its global creative and media business to Interpublic Group’s McCann WorldGroup, the company said.

Estimated billings are $300 million.

The selection had been expected [Adweek Online, March 7].

McCann prevailed over a WPP Group team led by Berlin Cameron/Red Cell and Young & Rubicam, and an Omnicom Group team headed by DDB.

“The Intel brand must consistently evolve in order to address new market opportunities,” said Eric Kim, vp and co-director of Intel’s sales and marketing group, in a statement. “As Intel increases its focus on delivering technology in a way that benefits people in their daily lives through our approach to platforms, the new global agency will play a strategic role in helping to communicate the essence of the Intel brand and the company’s technology benefits in a compelling way.”

McCann Erickson and Universal McCann will serve as Intel’s lead creative and media agencies, respectively, Intel said.

The client parted ways with the incumbents, Havas’ Euro RSCG and Media Planning Group, in January.

Select Resources International, Santa Monica, Calif., managed the review for the client.

The decision followed a final request for more information from all three contenders last week concerning staffing and costs.
