Ikea Retains Horizon Media for L.A. Market

LOS ANGELES Ikea North America has awarded media planning and buying duties for its Los Angeles market to Horizon Media, the agency said.

The independent media services company in Los Angeles picked up the business without a review. Ikea is spending $6 million in this market for its current fiscal year ending in August and is still in the process of determining its budget for next year, according to a representative for the client in Plymouth Meeting, Pa.

Horizon’s selection comes more than a month after Ikea shifted creative duties for the L.A. market from MDC Partners’ Crispin Porter + Bogusky in Miami to independent Secret Weapon Marketing in Santa Monica, Calif. Horizon currently works with Secret Weapon on the Jack in the Box account.

CP+B continues to handle Ikea’s national account. The Swedish home furnishings retailer spent $40 million on ads overall in the U.S. in 2003, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus.

Upcoming campaigns for Los Angeles include multi-media efforts to support the Ikea summer sale, tax-free Fourth of July and an image initiative for the 2005 fiscal year.
