Election Have You Wanting to Flee the Country? Esurance Has Got You Covered

Clever April Fools' Day prank from Leo Burnett

To everyone out there that has uttered the statement, "I am leaving the country," or, "I'm moving to Canada," if insert-presidential-candidate-name-here wins the election, Esurance has got you covered.

Well, sort of.

In an April Fools prank that you probably wish was actually real, the insurance brand created a new product called "Election Insurance." The idea, from Leo Burnett Chicago, taps into a poll from Vox which showed that 28 percent of voters would actually consider leaving the country, or moving to Canada, if the candidate they don't like wins the election.

"On April Fools' Day, we wanted to imagine how homeowner's insurance might ease the political woes of those people considering a move if their candidate loses," Brian Shembeda, evp, creative director, Leo Burnett Chicago said in a statement. "We attempted to match the more absurd moments from this year's presidential race with an equally absurd policy to protect them."

Essentially, if the insurance were real, you could pack up your bags and abandon your home for the next four years without a care in the world.

"Homeowners can choose between standard policy options that include weekly home maintenance and premium options such as the 'holiday overachiever,' which gives you piece of mind knowing your holiday lights and yard decor will keep up with the Joneses. There's even a platinum option that simulates a teenage breakup to give your home an authentic lived-in feel," the press release reads.

Just to make sure everyone out there knows that the product is not real, the ad spews a silly disclaimer at the end stating that you can't get election insurance in any states and Esurance "is not liable for any walls erected after your departure, and assumes no legal or financial responsibility if your assets are redistributed for the greater good in your absence."
