I Want To Be Very Like Mike

Frankel & Co. has tackled one of its more unusual and, ultimately, challenging assignments: helping to find three actors to play Michael Jordan as a child, teen and young adult in a made-for-TV movie for Fox Family Channel.
The agency organized an open casting call at Hoops The Gym on Chicago’s West Side, then helped keep things orderly when more than 1,000 hopefuls showed up with stars in their eyes–but often with no more likeness to M.J. than that.
The difficulty was not just in evaluating so many would-be actors (from registration through checking basketball skills and on-camera abilities), but also in keeping up the spirits of the 997-plus actors who didn’t get the role of a lifetime, said Chuck Strand, director of event marketing and communications for Frankel.
The finished product — Michael Jordan: The Untold Story of an American Hero — is expected to air on Fox’s new network this fall.
