Huey Creates Mizuno Golf Spots

ATLANTA Huey + Partners has produced two new television commercials for Mizuno Golf that are scheduled to break nationally Jan. 23, the shop said.

The two 30-second spots will be broadcast on the Golf Channel and shown at the annual PGA Golf Show exhibition in Orlando, Fla., that week. They will continue to air throughout the year.

In one ad, a businessman emerges from a coffee shop and sees his car being towed away. He frantically chases the car through the city until, in a desperate act, he leaps onto the back of the vehicle. In the next shot, he is walking away with his Mizuno clubs on his shoulder as the wrecker disappears down the street with his car.

In the other spot, PGA Tour golfer Luke Donald interacts with fans on a driving range. Donald is a spokesman for Mizuno golf clubs and uses them on the tour. When two men recognize him and tell him how much they admire his golfing, he explains that he can do other things well. “I’m a pretty decent artist, I know a little about wine and I even play the piano,” he says. The two men, obviously uncomfortable with the revelation, challenge him to hit the retrieving machine with a golf ball.

Huey + Partners, an independent Atlanta shop, opened May 1 after the closing of Huey/Paprocki in Atlanta. Ron Huey, president and executive creative director of H+P, worked on the Mizuno account at the former shop and retained the business when he opened his new agency.

Mizuno Golf’s headquarters also is in Atlanta.
