Burnett/Moroch Team Wins McDonald’s Co-op

CHICAGO—The McDonald’s Co-op Association in Maine awarded its advertising account to the team of Leo Burnett and Moroch Associates. The account was previously handled by Arnold in Boston. Billings were not disclosed. Combined, Burnett and Moroch handle advertising for 51 McDonald’s co-ops, including Chicago, Michigan and New England.

NY Mercedes Dealers Shopping Media Account

LOS ANGELES—The New York Mercedes-Benz dealer group is talking to undisclosed local media agencies about a portion of its media buying business estimated at $4-7 million, according to sources. Mercedes’ lead media partner, PentaCom in Detroit, previously handled the business.

BBDO Chicago Promotes Daugherty, Gibson

CHICAGO—BBDO Chicago promoted Kelly Daugherty and Michele Gibson each to vice president, account supervisor. Daugherty will oversee the agency’s Bayer Consumer Care accounts, while Gibson will supervise the shop’s Allied Domecq business. The two clients added roughly $50 million in new billings to the shop with additional assignments earlier this year.

Silversea Casts About for Creative Agency

ATLANTA—Luxury cruise line Silversea Cruises is looking for an agency to handle creative assignments. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., operation has retained Select Resources International in Los Angeles to conduct a review for a one-time print campaign. Sources have confirmed that Ground Zero and DiMassimo Brand Advertising in New York and Miami’s Crispin Porter + Bogusky are among the seven shops being considered.

White Wave Shifts Account to Arnold

BOSTON—Arnold has been retained by White Wave, marketer of Silk brand soy milk. The Boston shop was selected by the client in Boulder, Colo., without a formal review. Carmichael Lynch, Minneapolis, had previously worked on the account, which has an estimated budget in the seven-figure range.

Frankel Lays Off 30 More

CHICAGO—Frankel here laid off 30 employees last week after an earlier cut of 45 employees proved insufficient to deal with declining spending by clients, president Dan Rose said. The latest cuts represent slightly less than 5 percent of the Chicago shop’s staff, with total layoffs now totalling about 11 percent.

Playtex Picks Kraftworks

CHICAGO—Playtex Apparel moved its estimated $10 million account to Kraftworks LTD in New York following a review. The business was previously at DDB Chicago.

Former IMC Chair Tannenbaum Dies

CHICAGO—Stanley I. Tannenbaum, who chaired the Integrated Marketing Communications Department at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism from 1990 to 1994, died last week. Tannenbaum’s career in advertising included a stint as chairman of the former Kenyon & Eckhardt in New York.
