Saatchi Is Poised to Land Celebrity
NEW YORK–Saatchi & Saatchi has emerged as the front-runner for Celebrity Cruises’ estimated $35 million advertising account, sources said. The New York agency was asked to provide more information late last week, while other shops (Miami’s WestWayne and Bozell and Ogilvy & Mather, both of New York) learned that they were no longer in contention, sources said. At press time, however, Saatchi had not been told that it had won the business. The agency referred questions to the Miami-based client, which did not return calls.
Papa John’s Sends Media to Carat
CHICAGO–Papa John’s International has awarded its nearly $30 million media buying account to Carat ICG here. The Louisville, Ky.-based pizza chain’s media buys were previously handled by Fricks/Firestone in Atlanta, which remains lead creative agency and did not defend the media business. Other finalists in the media review included Empower Media Marketing in Cincinnati and DeWitt Media in New York. CIA CPM Media in Chicago and one other undisclosed media service were also involved early in the review.
Smith Advertising Expands to Raleigh
ATLANTA–Smith Advertising has opened a service office in Raleigh, N.C. The branch will be headed by newly hired account services manager John Hartofelis, previously of Rockett Burkhead & Winslow in Raleigh. The Fayetteville, N.C.-based shop has doubled its billings in the past two years to $20 million.
Zimmerman Group Tallies Durham Win
ATLANTA–The Zimmerman Group has been hired to create print advertising and deliver promotional services for the Durham (N.C.) Convention & Visitors Bureau. The budget for the balance of the fiscal year is $150,000; an increase is expected after July 1, 2000. Other finalists for the business included West & Vaughan, Peter Taflan Marketing and Creative Mark. All of the agencies are based in the Raleigh-Durham, N.C., area.
Hospital Seeks Replacement for Aydlotte
ATLANTA–Rockdale Hospital is seeking an agency to develop general image advertising campaigns and other marketing related services. The Conyers, Ga., medical facility previously employed Atlanta’s Aydlotte & Cartwright, now defunct.
Unknown Ad Guys Sign With Haynes
DALLAS–Haynes Media & Marketing has signed a pact with the Unknown Ad Guys for creative services. Identifiable only by the brown paper bags which they wear over their heads to client meetings, the incognito creatives from Houston have produced award-winning ads for Western National Life Insurance and other sponsors. “Our whole schtick is we specialize in cheap and funny,” said Ad Guy B in a phone interview. “We’re not relying on it so much for income but comic relief from our daily jobs. Our bosses don’t know we do this.”
