LOS ANGELES–Iomega Corp., marketer of computer storage drives and disks, awarded its $35 million advertising account to Publicis & Hal Riney, San Francisco. Euro RSCG/DSW Partners, Salt Lake City, the longtime incumbent on the Roy, Utah-based company’s account, resigned it in April. FCB Worldwide, San Francisco, was also a finalist.
A DDB Lands Gowarehouse
LOS ANGELES–Gowarehouse, an online business-to-business company that offers Internet-based logistics and inventory management solutions, selected DDB’s Los Angeles office to handle its advertising account, sources said. The business is estimated to be worth $10 million. A representative with the Santa Monica, Calif.-based client said the company had reached a “modified agreement” with the agency, and declined further comment.
A Colby Effler to Serve Koo Koo Roo
LOS ANGELES–Prandium’s Koo Koo Roo chicken restaurant chain, based in Irvine, Calif., selected Colby Effler & Partners, Santa Monica, Calif., to handle its estimated $3-5 million account, formerly handled in-house.
A Conference Honors Agencies, Addresses Issues
HAMILTON, BERMUDA–Featured speakers at last week’s American Association of Advertising Agencies conference painted a bright picture of their industry despite an ongoing commercial actors’ strike and questions about the influence of dot-coms on advertising. Reflecting on her year as chairman of the association, Ogilvy & Mather CEO Shelly Lazarus noted a torrent of new business borne of a booming economy that agencies, with their ability to develop brands, are uniquely positioned to tackle. Incoming chairman Phil Dusenberry, vice chairman of BBDO Worldwide, handed out awards to general and specialized agencies big and small, including New York shops Lowe Lintas & Partners, DeVito/Verdi, Admerasia and Vigilante. Turning to the ongoing SAG/AFTRA strike, industry lawyer Ira Shepard urged agencies to continue to cast for TV spots, despite union outcry and threats of repercussions.
A Y&R Chews Up O&M for Balance Bar
NEW YORK–In a battle of New York roster shops, Young & Rubicam has bested Ogilvy & Mather for the estimated $30-40 million Balance Bar ad account, parent company Kraft Foods confirmed. The assignment covers creative and media duties on Balance Bar, including the company’s Jenny Craig-branded diet nutrition bars. The incumbent was Suissa Miller, Los Angeles. The review came after Kraft acquired the Carpinteria, Calif., company earlier this year [Adweek, April 24].
A Reviews Roundup … Zenith Talking to 2, Alhambra, Calif., narrowed the review for its estimated $25 million account to Amazon, San Francisco, and McCann-Erickson and WongDoody, both Los Angeles. … Zenith Electronics is talking to two Chicago shops about a $15-20 million account, sources said.
