Fallon Breaks Qualcomm Work
CHICAGO–Fallon McElligott is expected to unveil its first television work for cellular phone maker Qualcomm Sept. 20, sources said. The work will continue the tagline from the agency’s print work, “Go brain go.” Officials with the Minneapolis shop referred calls to the client. Officials with the San Diego-based client were unavailable for comment.
Kmart Touts Move to Big K
CHICAGO–Kmart Corp. this week will break work touting the nationwide rebranding of its retail Kmart stores to Big K stores, according to sources. Television commercials from Campbell Mithun Esty in Minneapolis are expected to feature country music act the Judds, sources said.
Carmichael Enters Powertel Finals
ATLANTA–Carmichael Lynch is among three finalists that will pitch this week for wireless personal communications services provider Powertel’s ad account, now estimated at $25-30 million, sources said. Joining the Minneapolis agency is incumbent Pollak Levitt & Nel Advertising. The third shop was not known. Powertel is in West Point, Ga.
CIA Enlists Carat’s Surmanek
CHICAGO–Jim Surmanek has left Carat ICG here for an executive vice president’s position at CIA North America. Reporting to Tom Sassos at CIA VSM Media in New York, Surmanek will be responsible for applying the London-based media agency’s planning disciplines to the North American network. Surmanek will divide his time between CIA VSM and the network’s newest member, CIA CPM in Chicago.
Columbus Shop Grabs Wendy’s Work
CHICAGO–Wendy’s Central Ohio Co-op has tapped Ron Foth Advertising as its agency of record. The Columbus, Ohio-based agency defeated more than 30 contenders from Ohio and beyond to win the local advertising account, worth more than $2 million. Flynn Sabatino and Day in Miamisburg, Ohio, had been the co-op’s ad partner for 15 years but lost the account over a conflict with its new Skyline Chili business.
Burnett Boosts Roster With Jewelry ‘E-Tailer’
CHICAGO–Online jewelry and luxury gift Web site Mondera.com has named Leo Burnett and Starcom USA its agencies of record. Burnett will create a brand identity for the New York-based company through print and radio advertising, client officials said. Billings were not disclosed.
