Dally Closes Operation, Plans New Shop
DALLAS–Dally Advertising here has ceased operations after a reorganization plan was rejected Aug. 29 by a Dallas federal bankruptcy judge, according to agency owner Scott Dally. “We submitted a plan for reorganization to the bankruptcy court that we felt did an excellent job of repaying our creditors. The court refused to listen to us and put us into Chapter 7,” Dally said. He stated he is mapping out a business plan to open a new agency but has not determined whether to open it in Dallas or Fort Worth, Texas, where the original shop was founded. Dally filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January after losing an estimated $5 million regional Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits account. The agency had $31 million in billings and $4.4 million in revenue in 1995.
DDB Needham Rings Up Viacom Retail Group
DALLAS–DDB Needham here was named agency of record for the Dallas-based Viacom Retail Group, edging out The Richards Group of Dallas in the final round. Billings were undisclosed, but sources estimated the account at $10 million. DDB will handle advertising, interactive marketing and public relations for Viacom’s flagship Chicago store as well as 15-20 outlets slated to open next year. The agency’s initial assignment is the launch of three Nickelodeon-branded units scheduled to be operational by the end of the year. Three additional concept stores are also planned for an unspecified future date and may feature Viacom properties like MTV.
Doubletree, Promus Agencies in Holding Pattern
DALLAS–Representatives at DDB Needham Dallas and GSD&M in Austin, Texas, said future agency plans have not yet been determined following the announced merger last week of Doubletree Corp. and Promus Hotel Corp. The merger is expected to be completed by December, with Promus shareholders taking a controlling interest. DDB Needham Dallas handles advertising for Promus, which spent $18.4 million on measured media in 1996, according to Competitive Media Reporting; Doubletree’s expenditures were $10.9 million via GSD&M.
Intellivoice Communications Hires M/C/C
DALLAS–High-tech shop M/C/C here landed the account of Atlanta-based Intellivoice Communications, a voice recognition technology company. Advertising, media relations and trade show publicity are among the duties handed to M/C/C. Billings are undisclosed.
HSE Launches Work for Baylor Athletics
DALLAS–Hadeler Sullivan Ewing in Dallas has produced a 30-second institutional message and expanded the Web site of the Baylor University athletic department in Waco, Texas. The message will air during halftime of 1997 telecasts of Baylor Bear football games. The Web site was constructed by HSE sister company One Zero Interactive.
