Dallas Exec to Head OMD’s Local Broadcast

DALLAS—OMD USA last week promoted Cindy Clements to director of local broadcast, overseeing the placement of more than $1.2 billion in local radio and television on behalf of its clients. Clements will be based outside the Omnicom agency’s New York headquarters in Dallas, where Optimium and TBWA\Chiat\Day recently merged their media buying operations. She was previously director of local broadcast for TBWA, working with clients that included Apple, Bell Atlantic, Earthlink, Nissan, Sony and Kmart. Clements fills the position left open since last August by the departure of Annette Cerbone.

American Cancer Society Launches ‘Mi Vida’

DALLAS—The American Cancer Society has unveiled what is being called its most comprehensive outreach ever to the Hispanic community in Texas. San Antonio-based Creative Civilization—An Aguilar Agency created both Spanish- and English-language radio, television and print ads for the public service effort, which focuses on early detection of the disease. The ads feature real cancer survivors in family settings who state: “… If I care about my family so much, shouldn’t I give them what they want—my life?” A new ACS Texas state logo was developed as part of the campaign.

Slingshot Introduces Conexión/ele

DALLAS—The name Conexión/ele has been selected for the Latino marketing unit affiliated with Slingshot. The group is comprised of the account service and creative teams formerly at Grupo Cuatro Publicidad, the Hispanic division of defunct Berry-Brown Advertising. The independent, minority-owned Dallas company is led by co-managing partners Maribel Larrañaga and Angela Carrales. Conexión/ele (“ele” being the Spanish word for the letter L) is meant to convey a connection with Latino consumers.

Montalbano Drives Off With Dobles

ATLANTA—The Montalbano Group has won the $1.5 million advertising account of Dobles Automotive. The Metairie, La., shop bested Strong Automotive Advertising in Birmingham, Ala., in a review. Dobles is headquartered in Manchester, N.H. Montalbano has also picked up advertising chores for Roger Penske’s Kearny MesaToyota of San Diego, Jack Sherman Chevrolet in Midland, Texas, and Fisher Chevrolet-Honda in Boulder, Colo.

Goodyear Cuts Review to 4 Agencies

CHICAGO—Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has reduced the field of agencies contending for its $60 million North American advertising account to GSD&M in Austin, Texas; Goodby, Silverstein & Partners of San Francisco; and BBDO and McCann-Erickson, both in New York. McCann handles the Akron, Ohio, company’s Latin American marketing business. Cut were Fallon of Minneapolis and Young & Rubicam in New York. Both incumbent agencies, J. Walter Thompson of Detroit and TBWA\Chiat\Day in Playa del Rey, Calif., were dropped from the review earlier. A final agency decision is expected in March. A company representative could not be reached to confirm the list of finalists.
