HDC Splits With Mayor’s Jewelers
WASHINGTON, D.C.–Harris Drury Cohen, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has parted ways with Coral Gables, Fla.-based Mayor’s Jewelers, the agency confirmed. The high-end jewelry store is currently in the early stages of a review, according to sources. Marketing officials at Mayor’s did not return calls. Sources said the account is in the $2-3 million range, although HDC principal Stan Harris said that significantly declining billings was one of the causes of the split. Sources also said that Mayor’s has been farming out creative work to other shops for some time.

Atlanta Trio Vies for Daewoo in Southeast
ATLANTA–Three local agencies made their final pitches for Daewoo Motors’ Southeastern business last week. Austin Kelley Advertising, Tausche Martin Lonsdorf and WestWayne all presented for the account, estimated to be well in excess of $10 million. Daewoo officials said they expect to make a decision early this week.

Ga. World Congress Center Seeks Agency
ATLANTA–The Georgia World Congress Center has issued a request for qualifications to Atlanta agencies. The convention hall wants to produce “an immediate local/national print advertising campaign [targeting] five separate markets,” according to the questionnaire obtained by Adweek. Deadline for submissions was June 24. The budget was undisclosed. Congress center officials had not returned phone calls at press time.

Folio Z Adds Veteran Creative Director
ATLANTA–Folio Z here hired Atlanta consultant Keir Beard as creative director. Beard, a native of England whose resume includes creative posts at Ogilvy & Mather, New York, and McCann-Erickson in London and South Africa, has 25 years of ad experience.

Fitzgerald Acquires Cosmetic Centers
ATLANTA–Fitzgerald & Co. here and its public relations arm, Julie Davis Associates, were selected without a review to introduce Nova LaserLight Cosmetic Centers. Established by the founders of Opti-World, which Fitzgerald helped launch, Nova offers cosmetic skin renewal via non-surgical techniques. Billings were not disclosed; however, Fitzgerald agreed to accept a portion of its fee in warrants for Nova stock.

FKQ Picks Up Don Olson Tire & Auto
ATLANTA–Don Olson Tire & Auto Centers, Clearwater, Fla., assigned its ad business to FKQ, also in Clearwater. One of the top 10 independent tire retailers in North America according to Tire Business–with 128 auto centers located primarily in Florida–Don Olson Tire formerly handled advertising internally, reported FKQ. The budget is estimated at $1 million-plus.
