Hotel Derek Brings Room to Guests

DALLAS Ferguson Wehrly & Co. Public Relations has launched a traveling trade show campaign promoting Hotel Derek’s modern guestrooms, the shop said.

Debuted last month at the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International’s Affordable Meetings expo in Chicago, the Traveling Room Display is an exact replica of the Houston hotel’s guestroom.

Featuring a double bed, plasma screen TV, Derek’s mohair banquette sofa and signature wood floor, the room caters to the business traveler as well as the meeting and convention group attendee.

“While we are a small, independent hotel, we find ourselves in a similar position as the larger chain hotels,” said Steven Andre, general manager of Hotel Derek. “What these audiences care about is not only the size of the ballroom, but will the guestroom work for them. Since they all can’t come to Houston and experience our rooms first-hand, we’re bringing the room to them.”

Over the next nine months, Hotel Derek will take the 10 by 20-foot, 4,500-pound display to nine exhibitions nationwide. Custom-built by Exhibitgroup/Giltspur of Dallas, the display also features a plasma screen TV that shows images of other Hotel Derek amenities.

A member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Hotel Derek has been a client of Houston-based Ferguson Wehrly since October 2003. The PR practice will handle all public and media relation activities, as well as trade show support for the 314-room hotel.

Annual billings are undisclosed.
