Holland Wins 1, Quits Another

Holland Advertising has resigned the Comedy Central account, both agency and client confirmed last week. Separately, sources said the New York shop was named lead agency by Channel One network.
Comedy Central will now farm out projects to build a roster of agencies “that understands our sensibilities,” said client representative Laura Nelson. Competitive Media Reporting put 1997 billings above $2 million. Media chores have been handed to SFM Media, New York.
Agency chief executive Chris Holland said his shop hopes to work with more lucrative cable clients. The shop has started handling projects for E!, as it does for ESPN. It is also lead agency for the Sundance Channel.
A changing of the guard at the client may have also prompted Holland to part ways. Comedy Central in January tapped Bert Gould as senior vice president, marketing, replacing Paul LaRocca, who oversaw marketing at Comedy Central when Holland won the account.
LaRocca is now the executive vice president of marketing at New York-based Channel One, where he has hired Holland, sources said. Channel One’s account is estimated to be worth $1 million.
The agency deferred questions to the client, which declined comment.
Channel One is a daily, 12-minute national news program broadcast to more than 8 million middle and high school students.
