Riney, Black Rocket, Cahan Also Among Big Winners
SAN FRANCISCO-Goodby, Silverstein & Partners took home the coveted Bellringer Award for Advertising for the 11th consecutive year at the San Francisco Ad Club’s 13th annual San Francisco Show, held last Thursday at the city’s historic Palace of Fine Arts.
In addition to the Bellringer, given to the city’s top agency, Goodby picked up nine gold and 22 silver awards for TV, radio and print ads for clients including Nike, Frito-Lay (Cracker Jack), Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser), Porsche and Hewlett-Packard.
Publicis & Hal Riney snagged the Best of Show Broadcast Advertising Award for its First Union Bank “Launch” TV spot. The agency also landed six gold and 27 silver awards for work for clients such as General Motors’ Saturn Corp. and Aspen Skiing Co.
Black Rocket was awarded the Best of Show Print Advertising Award for its “New York Wall Slide” execution for Pete’s Wicked Ale. The ad club also presented the shop with the Mike Koelker Award for best overall campaign, recognizing its Wired consumer magazine effort.
Black Rocket’s other honors included three gold and seven silver awards for TV, print and radio executions for Discover Brokerage, Yahoo! and Wired.
The Best of Show Design Award was given to Cahan & Associates for its Heartport Annual Report. The shop also landed six gold and 17 silver honors for its work for clients including Flycast Network and the Bay Area World Trade Center. The firm was also awarded its third Walter Landor Award for Design.
Goldberg Moser O’Neill walked away with one gold award and the Ellie Award for Excellence in Traditional Outdoor for its Kia “Hiking Boot” entry. The agency also won seven silver awards for print and TV advertising created for Kia, Ameristar Casinos and Booz, Allen & Hamilton.
Individuals honored at the show included Jack Harding and David Wecal, who became the first creatives in the show’s history to share the Howard Gossage Award for copywriting. The pair were honored for their body of work for General Motors’ EV1 electric car.
Kevin Roberson of Cahan took the Marget Larsen Award for design for his work on Molecular Biosystems’ 1998 annual report. The Marget Larsen Award for art went to Joel Clement of Goodby for his work on Nike’s spot color newspaper campaign.
The Don Ashley Award for excellence in account management went to Dave Doyle, account director on Kia at GMO.
Gold awards also went to Anderson & Lembke, Landor Associates, USWEB/CKS and TBWA/Chiat/Day. ƒ
