GM Notifies 8 Finalists for Hummer Business

DALLAS General Motors last week sent letters to eight agencies that are semifinalists for the Hummer business, a company official said.
The agencies include GM roster shops and nonroster shops. Credential presentations will take place Aug. 3-8 in Detroit, followed by a cut to finalists. Those shops will be given a strategic and creative assignment with a decision in the fall.
The selected agency will launch a smaller, more street-friendly version of the Humvee in 2002.
GM acquired the Hummer brand last year. The vehicle is manufactured in England by AM General, which delivered the first civilian version to the market in 1992. Pyro Brand Management, Dallas, which has held the account since 1994, wants to defend.
