DALLAS-The Thompson Agency of San Antonio has reeled off three new business wins that could boost billings by $3-5 million, according to owner Ken Thompson.
Only one of the accounts, the Gas Transmission subsidiary of Pacific Gas and Electric, is for in-state assignments. The shop was also handed duties for the Nashville, Tenn.-based Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, plus project assignments for Cellular One’s Buffalo, N.Y., region.
The Southern Baptist Convention duties are potentially the most lucrative of the new business. Work for its Sunday School Board will include TV, radio, collateral and direct mail. Thompson was chosen to develop a three-year marketing program that will run nationally from June 1998 through 2000, according to the shop.
The Sunday School Board is a nonprofit entity that publishes literature for 40,000 Baptist churches and owns 68 retail bookstores.
“We were selected because of our past experience with the San Antonio Baptist Association” in an educational program that included television, direct mail, outdoor and public relations, said Thompson. Budget details were still being finalized last week, he said.
The PG&E business stems from the San Francisco energy company’s purchase of San Antonio-based Valero Energy’s gas division. The first work this month will be a consumer and trade campaign via print and direct mail to build awareness of the change in ownership.
Thompson also breaks its first work this month for Cellular One’s Western New York region, led by direct mail targeting retention efforts and pre-paid card programs.
