Fogarty Klein Acquires Subway




A Pizza Past Leads to Texas-Louisiana Sandwiches in Houston
DALLAS–Fogarty Klein Monroe has won the estimated $6 million account of Texas Subway Franchisee Advertising Fund Trust, one of the three largest groups of the restaurant’s outlets in the country.
The agency will handle all media planning, placement and promotional activities for the group of sandwich shop owners, which represents 750 Subway stores in Texas and Louisiana.
“They will be a substantial client of ours and one that we’re really excited about working with,” said agency principal Bill Fogarty.
Subway replaces a key food-services account–Domino’s Pizza– which Fogarty lost several years ago in a client consolidation. Fogarty formerly handled the multi-state central region for the pizza maker.
As a result of having that client, said Fogarty, “we had a full team of people that had been experienced and skilled in that area. This [Subway] opportunity came along and fit right in.”
“Texas is a market area of strategic importance to Subway,” said Chris Carroll, marketing director of the Texas Subway Franchisee Advertising Fund Trust, in a statement. “We believe Fogarty Klein Monroe is a best-in-class firm that can help us achieve our goals in the Texas market.”
Fogarty and other undisclosed contenders made presentations which incorporated creative capabilities, media skills and account service, as well as providing case histories relevant to the client’s business.
The account was previously held by Hadeler, Sullivan & Law, now Marc/USA Dallas, which did not participate in the review.
The Texas Subway group is a coalition of 12 franchise advertising boards. The group includes Subway locations in Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Tyler-Longview, Laredo, McAllen-Brownsville, Corpus Christi and Beaumont-Port Arthur in Texas, as well as Shreveport, Lake Charles and Lafayette, La.
The appointment of Houston-based Fogarty comes as Subway holds a national review for its
$30 million creative account. Finalists in that contest are Mullen, Wenham, Mass.; Messner Vetere Berger McNamee Schmetterer/Euro RSCG, New York; and The Martin Agency, Richmond, Va.
Fogarty Klein Monroe’s other clients include the Texas Lottery Commission, Captain D’s Seafood and Bank United.
