Ex Fallon ExecsOpen 2 New Shops

Minneapolis has two new ad agencies launched by former creatives from Fallon.

Rob Dalton, an art director at Fallon from 1985-90 and a freelancer since, this week opens Rob Dalton Advertising. The shop will operate much like a freelance consortium, but will also seek to establish ongoing relationships with clients and agencies, he said.

“In a consortium, people come and go,” Dalton said. “I’m hoping [my employees] all have client contact.”

Dalton expects his shop to be more of a resource for agencies than companies. He also expects his venture to remain small with only two or three creative teams and no account service or media departments.

“We’re looking to have a good, solid, creative shop,” he said. “I don’t think the Twin Cities need another full-service agency.”

Don’t tell that to Mike Lescarbeau. The former Fallon group creative director—he left in September—is set to open a full-service agency next month.

“We’re going to be a strong, strategic agency from the start,” Lescarbeau said. “We want to be a professional, well-rounded, full-service agency.”

Lescarbeau’s currently unnamed shop will be in downtown Minneapolis and seek full-service accounts. “I think location is becoming less and less important,” he said. “There’s always room for people who are being inventive and creative.”

Although he expects to have a few full-service clients in place by his projected Dec. 15 opening, much of the early work will be project-based, he said.

“It gives people a chance to date us for awhile before deciding to get married,” Lescarbeau said.
