6 Web-Related Accounts Land at Agencies Last Week
NEW YORK–At least six advertising accounts for dot-com companies have been awarded in the past week with a combined total of approximately $80 million in billings. Such weekly avalanches of activity among Web companies are fast becoming the norm [see feature, page 18].
Two accounts are for fragrance and cosmetics retailers.
DiNoto Lee here landed perfume Web site, which will launch in November. Billings are estimated at $15-20 million. “It’s about the people. I think Greg [DiNoto] and Esther [Lee] are amazing,” said Melissa Fedor, co-founder of the site, which will mix editorial and shopping. “They spoke exactly the language we wanted to hear.” New York shops Mad Dogs & Englishmen, Renegade and the defunct Yellow Card were included in the review., an online marketer of beauty and fragrance products, has tapped Ground Zero, Marina del Ray, Calif., to handle its estimated $20 million account. There was no formal review.
Goldberg Moser O’Neill, San Francisco, has won the $15-20 million ad account for following a review that included two other undisclosed shops in the Bay Area. The review was led by Brodia’s new vice president of marketing, Ron Benza, the former general manager of McCann-Erickson, San Francisco. Brodia, also in San Francisco, offers consumers who buy products online an “e-wallet,” with multiple credit-card numbers and shipping addresses.
Chicago’s J. Walter Thompson, meanwhile, is expected to be named agency for the $5-10 million account for, an Internet venture of the Tribune Co., sources said. A Tribune representative declined to identify a winner but said a review for the business included JWT, Leo Burnett, Tom Reilly Advertising and Quantum Leap, all Chicago; Stein Rogan and Partners in New York; and Organic Online in San Francisco. The Web site, aimed at college students and those in their 20s, launches next month. has given creative and media planning and buying duties to Grey Advertising in New York, which beat out BBDO, San Francisco, sources said. The Cleveland, Ohio-based client’s account is worth $10-20 million. is an online gift and greeting card Web site.
