Donovan Group to Close

BOSTON–After a dozen years on the New England agency scene, the Donovan Group is closing its doors.

Chief executive Michael Donovan said Wednesday that the shop in Watertown, Mass., has trimmed its staff–believed to have been about 50 when the year began–to an undisclosed “administrative level” as it winds down operations. Donovan attributed the impending closing to “a sudden drop in income” but did not elaborate. As of press time, the agency had not filed for protection under the Federal Bankruptcy statutes. Other agency executives and clients did not return calls.

The shop claimed billings of $46 million and revenue of $6.7 million for 2000. Its most recent client list includes Danskin, Fidelity Investments, Killington Resort and Tucker Anthony.
