DiZinno Gets Hip With Hang Ten

3 Full-Page Print Ads Celebrate Individuality
LOS ANGELES–DiZinno Thompson Integrated Marketing Solutions has created a new print campaign for one of California’s classic lifestyle apparel brands.
The ads, for Hang Ten surf clothing, break nationally this month and focus on individualistic youths. Three full-page, full-color ads are appearing in Teen People, Seventeen, Details and other youth-targeted books. The campaign is slated to run through November.
One ad features a young man jumping in the air, decked out in Hang Ten clothing. Behind is a muted green photograph of uniformed boys. The text reads, “It’s time for the army of conformity to put down its weapons and let the freak flag fly.” The tagline, “Make your own impression,” plays off the San Diego clothing maker’s feet logo.
The client has since taken its ad account in-house, said Tom DiZinno, president of the San Diego agency. The split was due to creative differences, said sources. The client could not be reached for comment.
Separately, the agency is crafting print, direct mail and outdoor ads for the Hotel Del Coronado, outside San Diego. The hotel has been the location for many famous films, including the 1959 Marilyn Monroe picture Some Like It Hot. –Teresa Buyikia
