Detroit Medical Center Calls on McCann

CHICAGO The Detroit Medical Center has tapped McCann Erickson to handle creative duties on its $2-3 million account, according to the shop.

The Interpublic Group agency will handle the account from its Birmingham, Mich., office. The shop is currently developing a new advertising effort that will showcase DMC’s affiliation as academic partner of Wayne State University’s School of Medicine.

“The Detroit Medical Center is a tremendous asset to Detroit and the region,” said Gary Neel, CEO of McCann Erickson’s Birmingham office, in a statement. “It has a tremendous story and we are eager to help tell it. We are looking forward to helping DMC communicate itself as a stronger brand through its leadership and innovation achievements,”

Media duties will be handled in-house. Contenders for the account were not disclosed. The client spent just over $2 million on advertising last year, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus.

The Detroit Medical Center’s individual units include Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Harper University Hospital, Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital, Hutzel Women’s Hospital and Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan.
