Creative Changeover

DALLAS-Blanchard Schaefer Advertising has selected Gary Hawthorne as its new creative director. He will succeed JanBlanchard, who has served as creative director since the agency’s inception in 1988.

Blanchard this month officially retires from her full-time work at the Arlington, Texas, agency to be a full-time homemaker. She remains a partner in the firm and will participate in management, providing input on projects as needed.

Blanchard founded Blanchard Design 13 years ago. In 1995, she co-founded Blanchard Schaefer Advertising with partners Bobby Blanchard and Ken Schaefer.

Her replacement, Hawthorne, was recruited from Grey Worldwide in Fort Worth, Texas. Said agency principal Ken Schaefer: “We began a dialogue with Gary back in October. His work had caught our eye. He has extraordinary insight into blending art with strategy and that’s how we want to be known.”

Hawthorne has provided creative direction on national accounts such as Nokia, GTE, Sam’s Club, Dillard’s, Justin Boots and Travelocity.

Separately, the agency’s public relations division, Blanchard Schaefer Group, has been selected to handle the account of HighTechCampus, a Dallas e-learning company that provides training for Fortune 500 firms via the Internet. A campaign will target human re-sources departments via the trade press and local media.

“They are innovators in e-learning,” said BSG president KentPingel. “They’re not a dot-com for dot-com’s sake … They just use[the Internet] as a means of distribution.”
