Cieslak Takes New S&G Role

LOS ANGELES Jason Cieslak, recently named executive director of interactive media at Omnicom Group’s Siegel & Gale, describes himself as a “techie” who tends to sit in front of a computer screen even when he’s not working.

“I have been known, from time to time, to try to hit a golf ball,” he said. “But I do tend to be a tech junkie. … I’m sure my wife would prefer me to do other things.”

The role is a new one at S&G, where Cieslak, 33, reports to president Noah Manduke and works out of the Beverly Hills, Calif., office. His reponsibilities, however, extend to working with clients on both coasts (S&G also has a New York office) as well as new business.

Cieslak joined S&G as business development manager in 1996 and was most recently director of interactive media, a role he held since 1999. Internet marketing was in its infancy when he joined and quickly caught the computer-lover’s fancy. Cieslak has worked on interactive efforts across a range of industries, dealing with clients including AOL for Broadband, Microsoft, CB Richard Ellis, Lexus and Jiffy Lube.

His new role, which he began last month, expands his responsibilities and is intended to clarify S&G’s committment to interactive. Cieslak oversees a team of 20 that he expects to grow (S&G’s goal is to increase its interactive business by 20 percent this year). While online branding remains a focus, increasing attention is being paid to branding through interactive TV and wireless devices, Cieslak said.

A native of suburban Chicago, Cieslak earned a bachelor of science in business administration from the University of California-Riverside, then started his career as marketing director for commercial real estate firm Lee & Associates, leaving that firm for S&G.

Cieslak is also a regular speaker at digital industry events.
