Carmichael Withdraws From Telecom Review

SAN FRANCISCO Citing workload concerns, Carmichael Lynch has pulled out of the review for Western Wireless’ estimated $15 million creative and media account, according to client and agency representatives.

The Minneapolis shop is involved in other reviews. It is contending for Jim Beam’s $30 million account and is one of two finalists for A.G. Edwards’ $20 million business.

Agencies still in contention for Western Wireless are: Publicis Groupe’s Publicis in Mid America in Dallas, Interpublic Group’s Temerlin McClain in Irving, Texas, and independent Hoffman/Lewis in San Francisco. The Bellevue, Wash.-based client previously worked with smaller undisclosed shops in the Pacific Northwest.

Western Wireless, owner of the Cellular One brand, will move forward this week, hearing creative pitches from the three remaining agencies. The client plans to cut to two finalists by Friday.

The selected agency will work on the Cellular One brand for Western Wireless markets and for licensees.
