Agency’s ‘Bulldog Tenacity’ Lured Recruiter
NEW YORK–Fallon McElligott has tapped a brand builder with agency and client experience to lead its office here, but admittedly not someone with a marquee name.
Alison Burns has worked at four agencies–Boase Massimi Pollitt, Bartle Bogle Hegarty and Young & Rubicam, all in London, and Berlin Wright Cameron here–as well as at PepsiCo, where she was a vice president of marketing. She was most recently chief executive of KTNY, an agency recruiting firm in New York.
Still, agency chairman Patrick Fallon admits that Burns is not well-known. Asked how the industry will react to her appointment as president of Fallon McElligott, New York, he said: ” ‘Say what? Alison who?'” He does not seem to mind, however.
“She has worked on big brands, she worked at great agencies” and she knows how to run a business, Fallon said. “So all those things add up to a nice fit for us.”
On the agency side, Burns, 35, helped manage accounts such as Quaker cereals, American Express and Cadbury. At PepsiCo, she worked with Pizza Hut International and fountain beverages.
Burns said she was impressed by “the cocktail of the extremely courteous, calm, professional way of doing things” at Fallon, and its “bulldog tenacity” in attacking brand problems.
