Burger King, eBay Combo Features Buns, Bids and Booty

CHICAGO — Burger King and online auction giant eBay Thursday announced a multi-year alliance in which consumers who purchase certain items at the fast-food eatery can acquire loyalty points that can be used to bid on merchandise at a co-branded Burger King-eBay Web site.

The agreement, which is scheduled to launch early next year, may expand to offer such items as CDs, concert tickets and other entertainment experiences provided by AOL Time Warner, which recently announced its own alliance with Burger King.

“This new program will reward our loyal customers by combining the food they already love with exciting new rewards from other great brands and alliances delivered via the convenience and fun of eBay,” said Chris Clouser, executive vice president and chief global marketing officer, Burger King. Clouser said that Burger King will make available approximately one million rewards during 2002.
