Brian McDermott, managing director, executive creative director at mcgarrybowen, has been named chief creative officer of Dentsu America, a position that has been vacant since Mike Wilson left the agency in 2009.
At mcgarrybowen, an operating unit of Dentsu Network West, McDermott worked on Chase, Marriott, Northrop Grumman, and Sharp. In his new Dentsu America role, McDermott will assume oversight on clients like Toyota and report directly to John Partilla, who was named chief operating officer of Dentsu Network West at the beginning of the year.
McDermott and Partilla worked together at Clear Channel, where the former was ecd of global media sales and the latter was president, evp, global media sales.
McDermott has also worked at BBDO, McCann Erickson and Young & Rubicam on accounts like Verizon, Visa, the United Nations, Vanguard, Sony, Bacardi, Charles Schwab, AOL, Pizza Hut, Gillette, and Snickers.
