Big Brothers Big Sisters Taps Porter Novelli

BOSTON Omnicom’s Porter Novelli has won the public relations account of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

The Philadelphia-based youth mentoring organization named Porter Novelli as its lead PR agency without a review.

“We had been working with Porter Novelli on a project basis [throughout the year],” said Noreen Shanfelter, director of media and public relations at BBBSA. “We were really impressed—they’re smart and they gave good service.”

Initially, Porter Novelli will assist BBBSA with public relations efforts surrounding the organization’s centennial anniversary this year. The firm will also help the client reach its goal of 1 million volunteers by 2010; BBBSA currently has 250,000 volunteers.

“We are using the centennial year as an opportunity to re-engage and reunite former bigs and littles,” said Pia Garcia, senior vice president of consumer marketing at Porter Novelli in New York. “For our part, it’s wonderful to be representing an organization that has such an important impact on society.”

Porter Novelli’s client list includes the American Cancer Society and the Alzheimer’s Association.
