B’ham Finalists Vie for Alabama Tourism

ATLANTA Four finalists have emerged in the review for Alabama’s tourism account, sources said.

Incumbent Lewis Communications will defend against O2 Ideas, Luckie & Co. and the Intermark Group, all in Birmingham, Ala.

Billings for the media and creative account have fluctuated between $2-5 million annually since Lewis won the account three years ago. Current spending is pegged at just under $4 million, said one source, who warned that the figure could drop.

Lewis has created two campaigns for the state. Its first, which launched in June 2000, touted some of Alabama’s quirkier attractions under “Now this you’ve got to see” as a tagline.

That campaign was replaced this year with a more subdued, family-oriented effort dubbed “The road to you.”

Final presentations will be made later this month to the Alabama Bureau of Tourism and Travel’s new director, Lee Sentell.
