Best Buy Hires Starcom

Electronics retailer Best Buy Co. Inc. has awarded its estimated $50 million national broadcast buying business to Starcom, Chicago, following a review.

Sources said Starcom outpaced the New York offices of OMD, Zenith Media and The Media Edge to win over BBA, Best Buy?s in-house agency. BBA, which bills more than $400 million a year, is by itself the fourth largest agency in Minneapolis and has won more than 50 awards in the past decade for its creative work.

Starcom?s assignment involves media buying for Best Buy?s eponymous flagship chain and its other retail brands, including Magnolia Hi-Fi, Sam Goody, Suncoast, Media Play and On Cue. Best Buy operates more than 1,800 stores in the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
