BBDO New York Promotes Managing Director Kirsten Flanik to President

Agency veteran will lead flagship office

The New York offices of BBDO have promoted Kirsten Flanik to the role of president, effectively immediately.

Flanik has spent nearly a decade at the Omnicom network, previously serving as managing director of BBDO New York. In the new position she will report directly to CEO John Osborn, who also previously held the title of president.

In a statement, Osborn said, "BBDO New York is a dramatically different agency than it was five years ago." He added, "Kirsten is a key partner of mine and has been a critical member of the team. She embodies our values, and has earned the respect of our people, clients and partners. As our agency continues to grow and evolve, the time is right for Kirsten to expand her leadership role."

The new president worked in accounts and business development at such agencies as BBH New York, Cliff Freeman & Partners and Fallon before joining BBDO in 2006 to oversee its Mars business in the United States. She since expanded her responsibilities to include clients Tropicana, ExxonMobil and FedEx while simultaneously running its pro-bono Autism Speaks account.

"In a business that never stands still, I'm excited to take this next step at BBDO New York as we continue to expand and evolve our offering," she said. "I look forward to building on the strong partnership and teamwork that already exists between myself and John and the rest of the BBDO New York leadership team."

BBDO does not plan to hire a new managing director to replace Flanik. The fact that she will now handle its flagship office's day-to-day operations frees Osborn to spend more time developing future initiatives for an agency that has recently won several major accounts such as health care giant Humana, and Subway.

Flanik's promotion is the latest move involving a top female executive at BBDO. Tina Allen joined the agency as head of data analytics last year, and Crystal Rix was promoted from evp, group planning director to evp, director of business development.

During Omnicom's recent Q1 earnings call, CEO John Wren also pledged to double the number of women in creative leadership positions at BBDO over the next 12 months.
