BBDO Adds Lesser to S.F. Team

BBDO West chief creative officer Ken Mandelbaum has enlisted another veteran of his former agency for BBDO’s San Francisco outpost. Copywriter Jim Lesser has joined the shop as vice president and associate creative director.
“I worked with Jim [at Mandelbaum Mooney Ashley], and he does great work that sets an agency apart,” said Mandelbaum. “He’s an award-winning creative who will allow us to continue raising the level of creative excellence.”
Joey La Cascia from Publicis & Hal Riney, San Francisco, was recently hired as the first vice president and associate creative director for San Francisco [Adweek, April 5]. He also worked at the former Mandelbaum Mooney Ashley.
Lesser, 32, joins BBDO West from Foote, Cone & Belding, San Francisco, where he worked on campaigns for clients such as MTV, Fox Sports and Sega. His new responsibilities at BBDO West include the EarthLink and Best Western accounts.
Lesser will team up with La Cascia on those accounts, said Mandelbaum.
The additions of Lesser and La Cascia are part of a larger plan by Mandelbaum and BBDO West president and chief executive officer Tom Hollerbach to reshape BBDO West and make it a stronger creative force on the West Coast [Adweek, May 24].
Mandelbaum said he expects to make more creative hires soon. In particular, the shop is seeking a San Francisco-based creative to partner with associate creative director Deb Hagan, who works in Los Angeles.
