Barbarians, Boston.com Team Up for Holidays

BOSTON The Barbarian Group has crafted an online game for Boston.com called “Snowplow,” in which gamers can “plow” around the city, racking up points by accumulating peppermints and snowflakes, the client said.

“We have been thrilled to work with The Barbarian Group to create our inaugural online game,” said Stephanie Shore, director of marketing at Boston.com. “Now local residents will have something to do at home while they’re hiding from the snow.”

The new game, which launched this week, is part of Boston.com’s “Get wrapped” campaign, an awareness and affinity-building promotion that will run through the end of the year. The effort includes print and online ads, mobile billboards, taxi tops and street teams.

Once players click on the game, they are transported to a computerized winter wonderland that includes Boston landmarks such as Fenway Park and the Citgo sign in Kenmore Square. Points are won by plowing through snowflakes and green and red gift packages. The top 10 scorers will be honored on Boston.com. Players can also e-mail the game to friends.

“As a Boston-based agency, we were proud to produce this game for Boston.com,” said Rick Webb, Barbarian group co-founder and director of operations. “And as gamers, we just hope others don’t become as addicted as we are.”
