Michael Bürgi, former editor of Mediaweek, has been named svp, global corporate communications for Starcom MediaVest Group. Bürgi will officially join SMG on March 14 and report to SMG global CEO Laura Desmond.
Based in New York, Bürgi will oversee internal and external communication channels and work with all SMG-affiliated brands to strengthen their voice and global reputation. He replaces Jill Kelly, who has taken another position inside Publicis Groupe. Bürgi was most recently vp of corporate communications at Canoe Ventures.
Prior to joining Canoe, he spent 17 years with Mediaweek, most recently as editor in chief. In addition to his day-to-day responsibilities, Bürgi will also join the SMG Global Management Group
