Avenue A Adds Director, Assignment

NEW YORK Avenue A has named Mike Slade, former chairman and CEO of Starwave Corp., as the newest addition to its eight-member board of directors.

At Starwave, Slade was responsible for the launch of ESPN.com, ABCNews.com, NBA.com and NFL.com, among other sites. Since leaving the Web-content firm following its sale to Walt Disney Corp. in 1998, Slade has divided his time between consulting for Apple Computer chief executive Steve Jobs and working on various startup ventures with Seattle-based investment firm Second Avenue Partners.

He began his career in 1993 at Microsoft, where he spent seven years in various marketing roles, including director of corporate marketing in the Seattle company’s systems software division.

Separately, Park Place Entertainment last week selected Avenue A to handle its online advertising. As a part of the relationship, the Seattle-based digital marketing and technology shop will provide the Las Vegas casino operator with interactive ad initiatives, Web advertising, search engine optimization, consulting and analytical services.
