Austin Ad Vets Open Agency

Guy Bommarito, former executive creative director at GSD&M in Austin, Texas, is opening an ad boutique with onetime colleague Rob Buck, who recently relinquished his partnership stake at T3 in Austin.
Bommarito.Buck. has not yet signed its first client. Bommarito said Buck has been wrapping up work for T3 and the two plan to begin pursuing clients this week. They will seek freelance assignments from agencies and hope to establish relationships directly with client marketing departments.
Bommarito has maintained an informal consulting relationship with GSD&M since he stepped down from his senior vice president and creative post there in January 1997. That arrangement is now limited to consulting on Brinker International’s Chili’s account, though Bommarito credits GSD&M’s Daniel Russ and Scott McAfee with the restaurant’s latest television campaign.
Bommarito said he and Buck began discussing the idea of partnering around the time Buck ended his second run at T3 last month. Buck had been partner and executive creative director there since rejoining the agency in April 1996.
Before joining T3 for the first time as associate creative director in 1994, Buck was an associate creative director and art director at GSD&M under Bommarito.
Bommarito–who has turned down creative posts in Los Angeles, Chicago and Atlanta–developed a national profile at GSD&M on Texas tourism, Southwest Airlines, RC Cola and the Houston Rockets. At T3, Buck oversaw creative work for Golfsmith and Dick’s Last Resort.
