5 Locals Oppose Twin Cities Shop For Creative Job
ATLANTA–Five agencies in Atlanta and one from Minneapolis presented credentials last week to marketing officials at Cox Communications for a creative assignment with billings estimated at $3-5 million.
Sources confirmed those agencies are Austin Kelley Advertising, BBDO South, Fitz-gerald & Co., Match and Saatchi & Saatchi, all located in Atlanta, and Campbell Mithun Esty in Minneapolis.
The client is working with a review consultant, Wanamaker Associates in Atlanta. The consultancy referred all inquiries concerning the process to officials at Cox, also in Atlanta.
According to sources, agencies made pitches last Thursday and Friday. From that group, two or three shops will be chosen for the final round, which will include some spec creative, funded by a stipend from Cox.
Cox’s business, previously at Bigelow & Eigel here, has been without an agency for a while. The account does not include media.
According to Hoover’s Online, Cox owns and operates 18 cable television systems in some 15 states. The company also has interests in TV programming networks, including Discovery Communications, E! Entertainment, U.K. Gold and Spanish-language Gems Television. In addition to cable TV, Cox offers other services that employ its wired network, including cellular communications and high-speed, cable-based Internet access. The company is primarily owned by publishing and broadcasting concern Cox Enterprises.
“Our understanding is that a lot of the work will be corporate branding and local market stuff,” said one participating agency executive, who asked not to be identified.
Officials with Cox could not be reached last week for comment on the review.
