Online Appliance Vendor Joins the Roster
DALLAS–The Richards Group has snared another online client with last week’s win of ApplianceOrder.com, an estimated $20 million account.
A spokesperson for Richards in Dallas referred queries to the client. Officials at ApplianceOrder.com did not return calls at press time.
According to sources, The Richards Group won the business in a competitive review which came down to finalists Makos and T3, both of Austin, Texas. Makos had previously done work for the client on a project basis.
The review involved a presentation of capabilities, with no creative work required.
ApplianceOrder.com began e-tail operations in January 1999 as a spinoff of Trilogy Software. Trilogy operates e-commerce businesses on behalf of companies including IBM, Boeing and Xerox. The firm has spun off several Internet ventures, including PcOrder.com, CarOrder.com and CollegeHire.com.
ApplianceOrder.com offers washers, dryers, dishwashers, ranges and refrigerators for sale over the Internet, generally at prices 15 percent less than retail store stickers.
Service is currently limited to the Austin, Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth areas, although the company plans to expand nationwide.
To deliver the large products to the homes of customers, Appliance-Order.com contracts with technicians in each of the cities to install and test the new items, as well as remove old appliances.
The Richards Group won the account of Giggo.com, DaimlerChrysler’s online car financing unit, earlier this month.
