Amazon.com Initiates PR Searches

BOSTON Amazon.com has launched reviews for the technology and retail portions of its public relations account, the client has confirmed.

Amazon.com has sent out 10 requests for proposals to handle the technology portion of the business, said Kathy Savitt, vp of strategic communications at Amazon.com in Seattle. A shortlist of four agencies will be announced this week, said Savitt.

Twelve RFPs went out for the retail portion of the business, with a shortlist expected early next week. Up to three agencies will be selected by year’s end.

Savitt declined to discuss fee structures.

The reviews are “no reflection on the quality of work our agencies are doing,” said Savitt, who noted they were simply a matter of “good business practice.”

Omnicom Group’s Fleishman-Hillard, the incumbent on Amazon.com’s technology PR, is not participating in the review. Incumbents on the retail business, Interpublic Group’s MWW Group and independent Dobbin/Bolga Associates, are both participating, said Savitt.
