Bates Southwest, Houston, has been selected by Houston Housing Programs to launch a local awareness campaign for its new home-buyer assistance offerings. Advertising, which will utilize radio, billboards and newspapers, directs home buyers to an 800 number and a Web site (www.houstonhousing.net).

The University of Houston kicked off a five-year advertising and marketing campaign this month. Developed by McCann-Erickson Southwest in Houston, the tagline for the new series is “The University of Houston: Learning. Leading.” The $5 million effort is funded by the school’s individual donors.

The Advertising Club of Fort Worth has presented the 1999 Dateline Award to the Fort Worth Herd for generating positive publicity for Fort Worth.
Witherspoon & Associates, Fort Worth, has been selected to conduct a service- provider survey for the city of Weatherford Electric Utility. The project will help determine branding initiatives for the client. The agency will also create a new logo for the power utility.
Triad Hospitals has chosen Graphic Concepts Group of Fort Worth to design its first annual report to shareholders. In addition, Graphic Concepts has been named agency of record for the Fort Worth Opera following a review.

Stone & Ward was the top winner at the Little Rock Addys competition, racking up 36 gold prizes among 109 total awards at the recent ceremony. Cranford Johnson Robinson Woods came in second with 70 awards, including 25 gold. The Allison Agency took best of show for its advertising on behalf of its Backyard Burgers account. The winning ad campaign featured actor Barry Corbin of Northern Exposure fame as homespun spokesman “Red Embers.”
Mangan/Holcomb & Partners, Little Rock, has added three new accounts to its roster: Stephens Private Client Group, Delta & Pine Land Co. and the Arkansas Repertory Theatre.

Tony Chachere’s, a producer and marketer of seasonings and food mixes based in Opelousas, has introduced a new advertising campaign. The brand image effort features an updated animated character called “Li’l Tony.”
