NEVADA Valley Bank, Henderson, selected JKD Marketing, Las Vegas, as its advertising agency of record. JKD will handle advertising, public relations, product development and product research. Sean Mahoney, previously an art director and graphic designer at several Las Vegas ad agencies, has opened his own shop, Mahoney Design, in Henderson. The Corporation for Solar Technology and Renewable Resources, Las Vegas, hired Advertising & Marketing Solutions, also Las Vegas, to handle its public relations. NORTHERN CALIFORNIA San Francisco-based Michael Osborne Design has redesigned the identity and packaging for Fremont-based Logitech's Dexxa brand of personal computer hardware. OREGON Steve Karakas, former partner and head of advertising at Karakas, VanSickle, Ouellette (KVO Advertising) in Portland, and David Parmley, the agency's senior vice president of integrated marketing communications, have formed an alliance with Milwaukee-based William Eisner & Associates to form Karakas Parmley/Eisner & Associates (www.nonbox.com). The new agency, to be based in Portland, will provide advertising and brand development services that mesh high-technology with retail responsiveness. Portland-based ad agency Livengood & Co. is ending its 30-year relationship with Dairy Queen in the Pacific Northwest. The shop notified the Edina, Minn.-based company's board of directors it will not renew its contract when it expires in February. Regional advertising responsibility will move to Grey Advertising, New York, the company's national ad agency for International Dairy Queen. Livengood will remain Dairy Queen's agency in the Boise, Idaho, market. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Bozell Worldwide, Costa Mesa, was awarded a corporate identity redesign project for national staffing service Alert Staffing, Los Angeles. The business is worth $5-10 million. Williams Direct, Santa Monica, has launched a new Internet division that will be headed by Ben Mendelson, who has worked on Internet development for Sony Pictures, HBO, House of Blues, Columbia/TriStar and other companies. Scripps Green Cancer Center, San Diego, selected Third Eye, also in San Diego, to develop a new visual identity for the center, which seeks to enhance its position as one of the nation's top cancer-fighting facilities. West Coast PBS flagship station KCET-TV, Los Angeles, selected Anti-Gravity Design Group, also in Los Angeles, as its agency of record. The shop will handle KCET's on-air promotions, print advertising and media planning and placement. Milk & Honey Production Services, Los Angeles, has formed an alliance with First City Features, London, aimed at landing work from clients in the U.K. for Milk & Honey's production offices in L.A., Mexico City, Moscow and Prague, Czech Republic. Rhino Linings, San Diego, manufacturer of spray-on truck bed linings, selected The Gable Group, San Diego, to develop an integrated public relations campaign. Hilary Kaye Associates, a Tustin-based marketing communications firm, added JMAR Technologies, San Diego, and Datron Systems, Vista, to its client roster. JMAR manufactures and markets precision measurement, motion control and laser manufacturing systems. Datron provides products and services for satellite- and radio-based communications systems. RDM Group, a provider of proprietary direct marketing programs, selected RiechesBaird Advertising, Irvine, to provide public relations services, including media relations, analyst communications and trade show support. Iconica, a Del Mar-based purveyor of commissioned fine decorative arts, chose Drasnin Communications, also in Del Mar, to handle its public relations duties. Meanwhile, court reporting firm Canedy & Canedy, San Diego, selected Drasnin to produce direct mail pieces and T-shirt designs. McDonald Media Services, Studio City, was retained by the Association of Independent Commercial Producers to promote its eighth annual show, The Art & Technique of the American Television Commercial, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Mentor Corp., Santa Barbara, and its ad agency, Andersen Jones Partners, have assigned media research, planning and buying duties to Mediaspot, Corona del Mar. UTAH Utah Auto Collection, an alliance of 13 auto dealerships near Salt Lake City, selected Larry John Wright, a retail advertising agency with offices in Phoenix and Salt Lake City, to handle its ad duties. Tacoma Guitars, Tacoma, Wash., selected Pinnacle Marketing and Communications, Ogden, to develop point-of-purchase materials for a national advertising campaign. Marketing communications outfit Harris & Love and Scopes Garcia Carlisle Advertising, both of Salt Lake City, have joined forces under the Harris & Love banner.
