Adding Up Adweek’s Classified Ads for Jobs takes

Is it too soon to start feeling nostalgic for the fat-and-happy classifieds sections of early 2000? Judging by the last two months’ volume of help-wanted ads in Adweek, the market for jobs in advertising, marketing and media has officially gone cold. The fall of the dot-coms gets its share of blame for the downturn. But the current slowdown could also be seen as a natural outcome of the hiring spree that characterized the first half of this year. Indeed, it’s a tribute to those glory days that the year-to-date figures remain on the plus side for five of our six regions (and dead-even in theother). We’ll see whether the pause of the past few months refreshes the market.
