First commercials, then a TV show and now a music video–the Geico cavemen certainly gets around.
The insurance provider announced today that their perpetually pissed off mascots will be appearing the upcoming 3 Doors Down video for the song “Let me be myself.”
The video has also been sliced down into two 30-second TV ads that will begin airing this weekend. The Martin Agency handled.
According to the company, 3 Doors Down approached Geico about featuring the Cavemen in the video. The band felt like the song was relevant to the Caveman’s story.
The video, which will debut in the coming weeks, is about being pressured to be someone you’re not, followed by the moment when you break free. “You never know where the Cavemen will show up next,” said Ted Ward, vp of marketing for Geico, in a statement.
The Cavemen have also made a cameo at the Oscars, during the Super Bowl pre-game show with Phil Simms as well as at other sporting events. “I don’t think it’s a big surprise to anyone that they’ve now made it into a music video,” said Ward. “I just have one question, what took so long?”
Geico spent $152 million in media in the first quarter, per The Nielsen Company. It spent $562 million last year.
